Biological Science is the study of life and living organisms including their structure, function, growth, evolution, distribution and taxonomy. It is an exciting and rapidly developing subject area which had undergone tremendous expansion in recent years and topic such as cell biology, neuroscience, evolutionary Biology, Ecology are advancing rapidly.
The Department of Biological Science at Indira Gandhi College of Arts and Science was established to teach Biological Science to the students of degree courses of Biotechnology and Applied Microbiology offered in this college. The Department has a separate lab with all the required equipment to support the laboratory sessions.

The Department has a well-equipped laboratory with modern instruments such as Soxhlet apparatus, Vaccum pump, Compound Microscope, Dissection Microscope, Calorimeter, Centrifuge, Camera Lucida, weighing balance, Microtome, water bath, pH meter, refrigerator etc.
