The Department of Statistics was established during September 2001. This is the only college offering statistics course in Union Territory of Puducherry. The department comprises of well experienced, efficient and highlycommitted faculty members. The department has well equipped laboratory with internet connectivity. The department aims at training the students in the development of statistical techniques both in theoretical and practical aspects. It also provides first hand practical experience in handling sophisticated statistical software like SPSS and SYSTAT in the analysis of data. For the benefit of thestudents, the department regularly organizes the seminars by inviting the eminent personalities in the field of statistics.

The Statistics Department organized various programmes at National Level by having a tie up with one of the Premium Institute of our Country Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) also with Govt. of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, Directorate of Census Operations, Puducherry.
Department Library was inaugurated on 25th July 2011 by Hon‘ble Education Minister Shri. P.M.L. KALYANASUNDARAM. Books worth for Rs. 15000 was donated by Dr. S. Kanaga vel, Head, Department of Mathematics, Indira Gandhi College of Arts and Science, Puducherry. Indian Statistical Institute Chennai Centre has donated books related to Statistics worth of Rs. 25000. Some of the Alumini of our department also donated few books towards the Department Library.
The Student’s Association of Statistics Department is named as “Stafro” through which various programmes like paper seminars, presentation, quiz competition, educational trip etc. for the benefit of the students in a regular interval. Students have participated in the programmes related to statistics organized in various other colleges and won number of prizes and cash awards.
The Department has a very active Alumni Association. The Alumni of the Department meet once a year. Two of our Alumni have been awarded Ph.D in Statistics by Pondicherry University and one of these Alumni is continuing his Post Doctoral Study at Indian Statistical Institute Chennai Centre. Passed out students of this department have been well placed in the IT sectors/Government/Private concerns.
