Biotechnology is the use of living systems and organisms to develop or make products. Biotechnology is a research-oriented field and finds its applications in Medical and Health Care, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Industrial Research and Development, Food Processing, Bio-Processing, Chemical Engineering, Drug Designing and Manufacture, Environment Conservation. Students are showing tremendous interest in Biotechnology. The primary reason behind this interest emerges from the fact that the technical and procedural application of biotechnology touches a vast array of disciplines. This in turn opens a lot many job portals for students who are seeking a stable career in their life.

The Department of Biotechnology was started in the year 2001. The department has qualified and committed team of faculty and staffs from diverse specializations.The department imparts quality education and training in multidisciplinary domains of Biotechnology for the benefit of society and environment.

The Department has a well-equipped laboratory with modern instruments such as Inverted microscopes, Electrophoretic apparatus, Gel documentation system, Laminar hood, Deep freezer, Incubators, Cooling centrifuge, PCR, Electro transfer systems, Gel dryer, Homogenizer, Autoclave, UV transilluminators, Distillation unit, Hot air oven, Gel rockers, Colorimeter, Microfuge, Students microscope, Clinical centrifuge, Soxhlet apparatus, Weighing machines, pH meters, Vortex, Water bath, Magnetic stirrer, Refrigerators etc.

The Department has been encouraging the students to independently think as well as to implement research ideas. The faculty also guides the students during their participation in a number of co-curricular as well as extra-curricular activities across various colleges, research institutes and Universities. The department periodically organizes guest lectures, Women’s awareness programmes, Parents-Teachers meetings and also conducts various competitions like Quiz, Seminar, Entrepreneurial projects, Waste recycling etc. The final year students are taken to visit research institutes with an objective of providing the functional opportunity and to combine theoretical knowledge with industrial knowledge.

The Department has a very active Alumni Association. The Alumni of the Department meet once a year. Passed out students of this Department have been placed in various National Institutes, Central Universities and Institutes worldwide (Italy, Hong Kong, South Korea, Germany, United States, etc). Many of the students have pursued and pursuing doctoral degree in many well reputed institutions all over the world.
